CLUB MEETING VENUE

Arrowtown Bowling Club,

6 Hertford Street, (Next to Arrowtown Firestation)

National Goat Competition

Enter the National Wild Goat Hunting Competition to compete for national and local prizes!

We registered our club as a goat "entry hub", so as well as prizes for the categories, we are sent a number of spot prizes to give away at the meetings and at the final prize giving BBQ event on 10th Dec. (Must enter a tail or head to go in the spot prize draw)

These local spot prizes include

  • a personal locator beacon
  • a $100 Huntech voucher
  • a voucher for a free downloadable Topo4GPS map for Garmin
  • and more as they arrive

In addition to the National competition, there are some local categories for anyone that enters a goat at the meetings, as well as prizes for NZDA members only (so with just 200 members there is a good chance of winning something)

Highest scoring goat head
Hunting & Fishing Camo Rifle Bag 48" and Gerber Gator folding knife.

Highest scoring goat head by a NZDA member
Hunting & Fishing Universal Gun Cleaning Kit and NZ Hunter annual subscription.

Highest scoring goat head by a Junior (under 18)
Hunting & Fishing 126pc First Aid Kit and $100 Hunting & Fishing voucher.

Most goat tails
$300 Huntech clothing voucher.

Most goat tails by a NZDA member
Lansky Quick Fix Pocket Sharpener from Hunting & Fishing and $100 Backcountry Cuisine voucher.

Most goat tails by a Junior (under 18)
Traverse Headlamp from Hunting & Fishing and $100 Hunting & Fishing voucher.

So to help with the Goat Competition, we are organising a number of club shoots over the next 3 months..........check out the events page and of course if anyone has any contacts for areas for goats, let us know, we can supply a H&S plan and a targeted approach.

Mt Dewar Goat Shoot.

Recently on the 26th & 27th August the first of the club goat shoots took place. Tough country out there and some huge distances covered. Well done to those that participated. A special mention to Blake Veitch who covered 18km and will be 9 years old next month.

Many of the goats were non retrievable so if you can take photos instead of risking life and limb to cut off it's tail, it is at the judges discretion to let you enter the competition.

Note - we are doing this again in November - see below

A total of 114 Goats were taken over 2 days. Four parties of hunters shot 6, 19, 33, and 56 respectively

Reminders for All Hunters

As these items need attention every 3 or 4 months, I put the reminder out at every change of season so as it is Spring it's that time again

Open area hunting permits are not only important and a requirement for the public conservation areas you hunt in, they are a good way for us to show how many hunters there are out there.
