Fishing the Greenstone & Caples?
Please be aware Fish and Game wardens do monitor and stay at the Greenstone hut and the Caples Hut so please make sure you have the correct licences. Non-compliance with Backcountry and Controlled Fishery Regulations is an offence under the Conservation Act, subject to a maximum fine of $5,000.
You will need:-
- Whole Season Fishing Licence
- Otago Backcountry licence Endorcement
- And only during Feb and March in the Greenstone, a booking for the controlled fishery beat
When can I fish the Greenstone?
The fishing season runs from 1st Nov to 31st May and is only restricted in the Greenstone during Feb and March, when a booking needs to be made.
It is fly fishing method only but it is a world class fishing spot and anglers are welcome to come and stay at the hut. |
